경찰이 최근 인천국제공항에서 배우 변우석(33)을 과잉 경호해 논란을 빚은 사설 경호원들에 대해 입건 전 조사(내사)에 착수했다.

16일 경찰에 따르면 인천공항경찰단은 지난 12일 인천공항에서 변우석을 과잉 경호한 사설 경비업체 소속 경호원들을 내사하고 있다.

당시 변우석 주변에 배치된 사설 경호원은 모두 6명이었으며 내사 대상자는 이들 가운데 3명인 것으로 알려졌다.

경찰은 이 경호원들에게 폭행이나 강요 등 혐의를 적용할 수 있는지 법률 검토를 하고 있다.

이와 함께 다른 승객이 공항 라운지를 이용하지 못하게 막은 행위와 관련해서는 라운지 운영사의 업무를 방해했는지도 따져볼 방침이다.

앞서 변우석은 홍콩에서 열리는 아시아 팬 미팅 투어에 참석하기 위해 지난 12일 인천공항을 이용하는 과정에서 과잉 경호를 받아 논란에 휩싸였다.

당시 인천공항에는 변우석을 보기 위해 많은 팬이 한꺼번에 몰렸고,우스터소스 굴소스사설 경호원들이 게이트를 통제했다.

이 과정에서 경호원들이 다른 승객에게 플래시를 비추고 항공권을 검사했다는 주장의 글과 영상도 인터넷에서 퍼졌다.

변우석 소속사인 바로엔터테인먼트는 지난 15일 공식 입장문을 내고 “모든 경호 수행 과정에서 발생한 불미스러운 일에 대해 도의적인 책임을 통감한다”며 사과했다.

경찰 관계자는 “아직 피해자들의 신고나 고소는 없다”면서도 “사설 경호원들이 법률을 위반했는지 폭넓게 들여다볼 계획”이라고 말했다.
