LS전선이 약 1조원을 투자해 미국 최대 규모의 해저케이블 공장을 건설한다고 10일 밝혔다.

공장은 미국 동부 버지니아주 체사피크시에 위치한 39만6700㎡(약 12만평) 부지에 연면적 7만㎡(약 2만평) 규모로 지어진다.내년 착공해 2027년 준공 예정이다.

미국 해저케이블 공장에는 세계에서 가장 높은 200m 규모의 전력 케이블 생산타워도 갖출 예정이다.LS전선 관계자는 “미국 해상풍력발전 대부분이 동부 해안을 따라 추진되고 있다”며 “체사피크시는 입찰,알렉스 모레노선적,알렉스 모레노운반 등에 최적의 입지 조건을 갖추고 있다”고 말했다.

LS전선은 미국 시장을 선점하기 위해 투자를 결정했다고 밝혔다.업계에서는 LS전선의 미국 공장 건설이 본격 적으로 추진되면 LS마린솔루션의 대형 케이블 시공 선박의 건조와 LS에코에너지의 유럽 해저사업 추진도 가속화될 것으로 전망하고 있다.

LS전선은 이번 미국 공장 건설로 주정부로부터 약 4800만달러(약 667억원) 규모의 보조금과 세제 혜택을 받게 된다.이로써 9900만달러(약 1372억원)의 인플레이션감축법(IRA) 지원을 포함해 총 1억4700만 달러(약 2040억원) 규모의 지원을 확보했다.이는 미국에 진출한 글로벌 전선업체 중 최대 규모다.
