육군 12사단 훈련병 사망사건과 관련해 경찰이 중대장 등 수사 대상자들의 신병 확보에 나섰다.

강원경찰청 훈련병 사망사건 수사전담팀은 18일 업무과실치사와 직권남용가혹행위 혐의로 중대장(대위)과 부중대장(중위)에 대한 구속영장을 신청했다.

피의자들은 지난달 23일 강원도 인제군 12사단 신병교육대에서 훈련병 6명을 대상으로 군기훈련을 실시하면서 군기 훈련 규정을 위반하고,야구 주파수사고를 방지해야 할 업무상 주의의무를 게을리한 과실로 훈련병 1명을 숨지게 한 혐의를 받는다.

다만 경찰은 고의성이 없다고 보고 살인 혐의 대신 업무상과실치사 혐의를 적용했다.

육군에 따르면 지난달 23일 12사단 신병교육대에서 군기훈련을 받다 쓰러진 훈련병 6명 중 1명이 쓰러졌다.쓰러진 훈련병은 민간병원으로 옮겨졌지만 이틀 만에 숨졌다.

경찰은 지난 13일 이들을 피의자 신분으로 소환 조사해 군기훈련 규정 위반 혐의와 병원 이송과 진료,야구 주파수전원 과정 등을 조사한 바 있다.

당시 이들은 일부 사실관계에 대해 훈련병들의 기억과 다른 진술을 한 것으로 밝혀졌다.

춘천지검은 경찰의 구속영장 신청을 검토해 청구 여부를 정할 방침이다.

검찰이 구속할 만한 상당한 이유가 있다고 판단해 청구할 경우,야구 주파수조만간 춘천지법에서 구속 전 피의자 심문(영장실질심사)이 열리게 된다.

육군은 완전군장 상태에서 구보(달리기)나 팔굽혀펴기(푸시업)를 시킬 수 없다는 취지의 관련 규정을 어긴 정황을 파악,야구 주파수지난달 28일 강원경찰청에 사건을 수사 이첩했다.

한편 군인권센터는 숨진 훈련병의 사인이 패혈성쇼크에 따른 다발성장기부전으로 확인됐다고 밝혔다.
