아마존웹서비스(AWS)와 구글,도브 카지노마이크로소프트(MS)에 이어 애플도 타이완에 데이터센터 설립을 계획 중이라고 중국시보 등 타이완언론이 25일 보도했습니다.

보도에 따르면 애플은 타이완 북부 지역에 데이터센터 건설을 위해 1천억 타이완달러(4조3천억원) 이상을 투자할 예정입니다.

세계 최대 파운드리(반도체 수탁생산) 업체인 타이완 TSMC와 함께 인공지능(AI) 칩을 개발 중인 애플은 엔비디아를 견제할 목적으로 타이완에 데이터센터를 건립한다는 관측도 나옵니다.

애플은 수년 전부터 데이터센터 서버에서 AI 소프트웨어를 연산할 수 있는 칩 개발을 위해 TSMC와 긴밀하게 협력해온 것으로 알려졌습니다.

이외에 최근 엔비디아는 타이완에 두 번째 AI 슈퍼컴퓨터 센터 설립을 계획 중이며,아마존웹서비스(AWS)는 데이터센터 설립 등에 향후 15년간 수십억달러를 투자할 예정이라고 밝힌 바 있습니다.

구글은 데이터센터용으로 이미 400억 타이완달러(약 1조7천100억원)를 투자했다고 밝혔습니다.

중국시보는 타이완 출신 젠슨 황 엔비디아 최고경영자(CEO)가 최근 AI 전진기지로 타이완을 부각하면서 클라우드 서비스 제공업체들이 몰리는 추세라고 분석했습니다.

데이터센터는 서버 컴퓨터에 데이터를 모아두는 시설로 AI와 클라우드,데이터 분석 등 신기술의 기반이 되는 핵심 인프라 역할을 합니다.

구글·MS·아마존 등 빅테크 기업들은 AI 시대 데이터센터 신설과 증설에 공격적으로 나서고 있으며,실시간으로 생산되는 데이터를 활용하고자 하는 수요가 증가하면서 각국 정부도 데이터센터 유치에 힘을 쏟고 있습니다.
