[대구=뉴시스] 정창오 기자 = 대구시의회 의원연구단체‘새시대 희망포럼’(대표 황순자 의원)은 8일 오후 2시 시의회 3층 회의실에서‘대구시 반려동물 보호 및 복지정책 개선을 위한 토론회’를 개최한다.

5일 포럼에 따르면 이번 토론회는 최근 반려동물을 키우는 인구가 급격히 늘어남에 따라 주민 사이의 갈등,동물 학대와 유기 등의 문제가 함께 증가하고 있어 이에 대한 대구시의 대응 방안을 모색하고자 마련됐다.

토론회를 제안한 윤권근 의원은 “반려동물 1000만 시대이고,대구시에도 14만 마리가 등록되어 있지만 반려동물에 대한 책임의식과 사회제도는 여전히 부족하다”며 “대구시와 동물보호단체,전문가,시민들이 머리를 맞대고 효과적인 해결책을 모색해야 한다”고 주장했다.

이날 토론회는 이형주 동물복지문제연구소 대표의‘동물복지 현황과 과제’에 대한 주제 발표로 시작한다.

이어 윤권근 의원이 좌장을 맡아 토론을 진행하고,채일택 동물자유연대 전략사업국장,오위숙 대구동물보호연대 대표,부산부일카서비스천하명당복권방이준호 수성대 반려동물보건과 교수,부산부일카서비스천하명당복권방박준서 대구수의사회장,부산부일카서비스천하명당복권방임규호 (사)대구유기동물보호협회 대표,부산부일카서비스천하명당복권방김종오 대구시 농산유통과장이 패널로 참석한다.

황순자 '새시대 희망포럼’대표는 “대구에서 유기되어 공공 동물보호소로 입소되는 동물이 매년 4500여 마리에 달하고 이중 절반 이상은 자연사하거나 안락사되고 있다”며 “이번 토론회를 통해 대구시의 동물복지 수준이 몇 단계 상승하는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.
