세계에서 지난 6년간 생성형 인공지능(AI) 특허 출원 건수가 8배 급증했고 중국이 이를 이끌었다고 유엔 세계지적재산권기구(WIPO)가 현지시간 3일 밝혔습니다.

로이터통신에 따르면 WIPO는 이날 제네바에서 기자회견을 열고 생성형 AI 특허 출원에 대한 신규 보고서를 발표했습니다.

보고서에 따르면 지난해까지 10년 동안 세계에서 총 5만4천 건의 생성형 AI 특허가 출원됐으며 이 가운데 25%가 지난해에 신청됐습니다.

생성형 AI 특허는 여전히 세계 AI 특허의 6%에 불과하지만 출원 건수는 급속히 증가하는 추세라고 보고서는 분석했습니다.

WIPO는 AI와 동의어가 된 딥 신경망 아키텍처(deep neural network architecture)가 처음 도입된 2017년 이후 생성형 AI 특허가 8배 늘어났다면서 “이는 호황을 이루는(booming) 영역”이라고 평가했습니다.

이어 지금까지 가장 많은 생성형 AI 특허 출원이 중국에서 이뤄졌다면서 2014년부터 지난해까지 3만8천 건 이상이 중국에서 신청됐다고 밝혔습니다.

이는 같은 기간 6천276건으로 2위를 차지한 미국의 6배 이상입니다.

이어 한국은 4천155건,일본은 3천409건으로 각각 3위와 4위를 기록했으며 뒤이어 인도가 1천350건으로 5위를 차지했습니다.

최다 출원자는 중국인(기업·기관)으로,중국 최대 정보기술(IT) 기업인 텐센트가 1위를 차지했고 핑안보험,lng 롤바이두,lng 롤중국과학원 등 2∼4위도 중국이 차지했습니다.

미국의 IBM이 5위를 차지했고 이어 중국 알리바바,한국 삼성전자,미국 알파벳,중국 바이트댄스,lng 롤미국 마이크로소프트 순으로 10위 안에 이름을 올렸습니다.
