초고령화 사회 일본에선 차량 페달을 잘못 밟아 일어나는 사고를 막기 위해 안전장치 설치를 의무화하기로 했습니다.

이 장치가 있으면 전후방에 물체가 있을 경우 가속 페달을 밟아도 경고음이 울리면서 가속이 억제됩니다.

도쿄 지종익 특파원의 보도입니다.

일본 도쿄 시내 한 편의점 입구가 뻥 뚫리고 내부는 아수라장이 됐습니다.

80대 운전자가 몰던 승용차가 후진 주차를 하려다 편의점 안으로 돌진한 겁니다.

이 운전자는 가속 페달을 브레이크로 착각했다고 경찰에 진술했습니다.

지난 2019년 도쿄 번화가에서는 87살 운전자가 몰던 차량이 횡단보도로 돌진했습니다.

이 사고로 자전거를 타고 길을 건너던 30대 엄마와 3살 딸이 숨지고 보행자 등 9명이 다쳤습니다.

긴 막대기로 가속 페달을 누르고 있었지만 경고음이 울리며 가속이 억제됩니다.

페달 오조작 방지장치로 새롭게 만들어지는 차량 대부분에 장착돼 있습니다.

일본 정부는 최근 고령 운전자의 가속 페달과 브레이크 페달을 혼동해 일으키는 사고가 잇따르자 이 장치를 의무화하기로 했습니다,

[기오카 겐이치로/자동차정비회사 직원 : "100% 사고를 막을 수는 없습니다.만약 조작을 잘못했을 때 보조적으로 도와주는 장치로 (인식하는 게 좋습니다)."]

또,2024년4월14일 알메러 시티 FC 스파르타 로테르담운전면허를 갱신할 때 고령자는 별도의 운전 강습을 수강하거나 인지기능 검사를 받아야 합니다.
