[서울=뉴시스]이승주 기자 = 수면 전문 브랜드 시몬스가 이천시와 순환경제사회 활성화를 위한 자원순환 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 7일 밝혔다.

지난 5일 이천시 복하천 일원에서 진행된 이번 협약식에는 이종성 시몬스 생산물류전략부문 부사장,how much a dollar cost김경희 이천시장을 비롯한 양 기관 주요 관계자들과 지역 환경시민단체 회원 등 200여명이 참석했다.

이번 협약을 통해 시몬스와 이천시는 폐기물의 발생을 최소화하고,how much a dollar cost관내 공공기관들과 협업해 폐기물 재순환 활동 등을 추진함으로써 지속가능한 순환경제사회를 만드는 데 기여하기로 했다.

협약을 체결한 후 양측 임직원들과 환경시민단체 회원들은 중고 물품을 기부하고 쓰레기 줍기와 'EM(Effective Microorganisms·유용미생물) 흙공' 던지기 등 복하천 수질 개선 및 토양 복원을 위한 활동을 펼쳤다.

이 부사장은 "환경의 날을 맞아 이천시와 환경 보호 및 지속가능한 미래를 위한 실천을 약속하게 돼 더욱 뜻깊게 생각한다"며 "앞으로도 시몬스는 ESG 선도기업으로서 지역사회 발전 및 미래세대를 위해 최선의 노력을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.

김 시장은 "지속가능한 순환경제 사회 구축에 기꺼이 동참해 준 시몬스 침대에 깊은 감사를 드린다"며 "이번 협약이 사회 전반적으로 자원의 재순환 및 순환경제 전환을 이끄는 기폭제가 되길 바란다"고 말했다.

한편 시몬스는 이천 지역사회에서 다채로운 ESG 활동에 앞장서고 있다.이천시 모가면 일대에는 생산시설 및 수면 연구 R&D센터 등을 갖춘 '시몬스 팩토리움'과 ESG 산실인 복합문화공간 '시몬스 테라스' 등이 자리 잡고 있다.
