[앵커]

유럽중앙은행이 기준 금리를 0.25%포인트 내렸습니다.

고물가에 대처하기 위해 금리 인상을 시작한 지 23개월 만의 방향 전환입니다.

경기 침체 우려 때문인데요.

유럽 중앙은행은 그러나 올해 물가상승률 전망치는 상향 조정하고 추가 금리인하까지 예상보다 다소 오래 걸릴 수 있음을 시사했습니다.

[리포트]

유럽중앙은행이 현지 시각 6일 기준금리를 4.5%에서 4.25%로 0.25%p 낮췄습니다.

우크라이나 전쟁 등으로 급등한 물가를 잡기 위해 2022년 7월 기준금리를 0.5％포인트 올리는 '빅스텝'을 밟으며 금리인상을 시작한 이후 23개월 만의 방향 전환입니다.

유럽중앙은행은 금리를 동결한 지난해 9월 이후 물가 상승률이 2.5%p이상 하락했고 인플레이션 전망도 크게 개선됐다고 금리 인하 이유를 설명했습니다.

독일 등 곳곳에서 경기 침체에 대한 우려가 커지자 금리를 낮춘 겁니다.

이에 따라 한국과 유로존의 금리 격차는 0.75％포인트로 줄었습니다.

하지만 미국과는 1∼1.25％포인트로 확대됐습니다.

유럽중앙은행은 추가 금리인하 가능성에 대해 확답을 하진 않았습니다.

[크리스틴 라가르드/ECB 총재 : "최근 몇 분기 나아졌습니다만,뉴포트 카운티임금 상승률은 높아지고 인플레이션은 내년까지 목표치를 상회할 것으로 예상됩니다.따라서 국내 물가 상승 압력은 여전히 강합니다."]

유럽중앙은행의 금리인하는 캐나다가 주요 7개국 가운데 처음으로 금리인하에 나선 지 하루 만에 나왔습니다.

올들어 스위스와 스웨덴 등도 금리를 내리면서 미국도 하반기 중 인하에 나설 것이란 분석이 나옵니다.
