홍태용 김해시장은 10일 김해중소기업비즈니스센터 5층 대연회장 '2024 글로컬대학 비전 및 시민펀드 선포식'에서 이같이 피력했다.

홍 시장은 "글로컬대학은 비수도권에 있는 대학이 지역에 있는 산업체와 함께 혁신 프로그램을 만들어낼때 5년에 걸쳐서 1천억 원 지원을 받는 것이다"라며 "지방대학 혁신과 활성화 또는 그를 통해서 지방의 소멸을 조금이라도 줄이고자 만들어진 정부의 정책이다"고 밝혔다.

그러면서 "올해는 반드시 글로컬대학에 지정돼‘올 시티 캠퍼스’를 통해 청년들이 떠나가지 않고 김해지역에서 꿈을 펼칠 수 있도록 마지막까지 최선의 노력을 다하겠다"고 의미를 부여했다.

홍 시장은 "김해지역 청년인구(19~34세)는 전체 인구의 28.4%인 15만 1000명이다"며 "대학은 지역 성장의 핵심이다.지역소멸의 위기의 시대에 우리는 교육과 산업의 대전환을 필요로 하고 지성의 요람인 대학의 역할은 그 어느 때보다 중요히다"고 말했다.

홍 시장은 "김해는 국립대학이 없다"면서 "사학재단입니다마는 인제대·가야대·김해대 3곳 대학이 있다.이 대학들이 먼저 문호를 개방하고 벽을 허물어서 대학 간에 서로 학생들을 교류할 수 있는 프로그램을 만들어내겠다라는 게 기본이다"고 밝혔다.

홍태용 시장은 "대학의 경쟁력을 키워 비수도권 지역소멸을 극복하는 것은 지역사회의 중요한 책무이다"고 하면서 "지역 동반성장 이라는 공동의 목표를 가지고 지·산·학이 의기투합한 글로컬대학 사업이 김해시의 대전환을 가져올 것이다"고 강조했다.
