10년 후에는 초등학교의 학생 수가 학급 당 '한 자릿수' 수준으로 줄어들 수 있다는 분석이 나왔습니다.

홍인기 좋은교사운동 초등정책팀장은 오늘(4일) 더불어민주당 김문수,보스코어파워볼백승아 의원,조국혁신당 강경숙 의원과 시민단체 사교육걱정없는세상(사걱세)이 서울 중구 서소문성지 역사박물관에서 공동 주최한 '저출생 위기탈출,보스코어파워볼교육개혁포럼'에서 이런 추계를 발표했습니다.

홍 팀장은 통계청이 지난해 6월 발표한 학령인구 추계를 바탕으로 초등학교 학급 당 학생 수를 예측했더니 2034년에는 저위추계(추정치 중 인구가 가장 빨리 감소하는 수준으로 가정) 기준 학급당 학생 수가 8.8명으로 나왔다고 밝혔습니다.

예측치에 따르면 학급 당 학생 수는 2023년 21.1명에서 계속 줄어들어 2033년에는 9.3명으로 처음으로 한 자릿수에 진입할 것으로 봤습니다.

인구가 지금처럼 준다면 초등학교 학급 당 학생 수는 2060년에는 5.5명,2070년에는 무려 2.7명으로 떨어집니다.

저위추계보다 인구 감소 속도를 완만하게 보는 중위추계 기준으로도 2034년 초등학교 학급당 학생 수는 9.8명으로 한 자릿수로 떨어지고,2060년 8.7명,보스코어파워볼2070년 6.0명으로 감소할 것으로 추산됐습니다.

홍 팀장은 "지금 학생 수 감소 속도는 지나치게 빠르며,오랜 시간 유지해온 모든 시스템이 한꺼번에 무너질 수 있다"며 "사전 감지 경고등을 마련해야 할 시기"라고 말했습니다.

그는 학생 수 감소로 가장 피해를 볼 곳은 소규모 학교조차 없어지는 지역이라고 지적했습니다.

그는 "지역에서 초등학교가 폐교되면 젊은 층의 유입이 줄고 마을도 사라질 수 있다"고 경고했습니다.

그러면서 소규모 학교의 기준을 현재 120명에서 60명 이하로 낮추고,특별 지원하는 법을 마련해야 한다고 주장했습니다.
