음주 뺑소니 혐의를 받는 트로트 가수 김호중(33) 측이 피해자와 합의가 늦어진 과정에 대해 "(경찰이) 연락처를 알려주지 않았다"고 주장한 데 대해 경찰이 입장을 밝혔다.

지난 17일 조지호 서울경찰청장은 서울 종로구 서울경찰청에서 열린 기자간담회를 통해 "개인정보인데 경찰이 번호를 알려주면 안 된다.(연락처를) 안 알려준 경찰이 규정을 잘 지킨 것"이라고 말했다.

이어 "본인이 피해자를 확인해서 택시회사를 찾는다든지 노력해서 해야지 경찰을 탓할 게 아니다"라고 지적했다.

앞서 김호중 측은 피해자인 택시기사 A씨와 사고 발생 35일만인 지난 13일 합의한 것으로 알려졌다.

김호중 측은 A 씨와의 합의가 늦어진 데 대해 "사고 현장을 이탈해 피해자를 만나지 못했다"며 "사과와 보상을 하고 싶었지만 (경찰이) 연락처를 알려주지 않아 불가했다"고 주장했다.

앞서 김 씨는 지난달 9일 오후 11시40분께 서울 강남구 압구정의 한 도로에서 음주운전을 하던 중 택시를 들이받는 사고를 내고 도주한 혐의로 구속 송치됐다.그는 매니저에게 허위 자수를 종용하는 등 사건을 은폐하려 했다는 의혹도 함께 받는다.
