(서울=뉴스1) 한재준 기자 = 삼성전자(005930)가 업계 최초로 3나노(㎚·10억분의 1m) 게이트올어라운드(GAA) 공정으로 만든 웨어러블용 애플리케이션프로세서(AP)를 공개했다.

삼성전자는 3일 회사 공식 홈페이지에 3나노 GAA 공정이 적용된 '엑시노스 W1000'을 공개했다.

AP는 하나의 칩에 CPU(중앙처리장치),로또 멤버십GPU(그래픽처리장치) 등 기능을 구현한 시스템온칩(SoC) 반도체로 휴대용 기기의 두뇌 역할을 한다.

엑시노스 W1000은 삼성전자가 만든 최초의 웨어러블 프로세서로 빅 코어(Arm 코어텍스-A78) 하나와 리틀 코어 4개(Arm 코어텍스-A55)로 구성됐다.

멀티코어 기준 전작(엑시노스 W930) 대비 성능이 3.7배 개선됐으며 저전력더블데이터레이트(LPDDR)5를 탑재해 전력 효율도 높였다.앱 실행 속도도 최대 2.7배 개선됐다고 삼성전자는 설명했다.

엑시노스 W1000은 첨단 패키징 공법인 '팬아웃-패널레벨패키징'(FO-PLP)을 통해 생산된다.해당 공법은 원형 웨이퍼 대신 직사각형 패널에서 칩을 패키징하는 것으로 생산성을 높일 수 있다.

엑시노스 W1000은 삼성전자가 출시를 준비 중인 갤럭시워치7에 탑재될 것으로 전망된다.

삼성전자는 "엑시노스 W1000은 첨단 제조 공정과 패키징 기술로 칩 성능이 향상되고 크기는 작아져 배터리 공간을 더 확보할 수 있다"며 "스마트워치를 더 오래 사용하면서도 프리미엄 성능을 즐길 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
