전용 소화기는 거기 없었다…'리튬 화재' 무방비

불이 어떻게 시작됐는지,그 모습이 포착된 공장 내부 CCTV를 저희가 확보했습니다.처음 폭발이 나고 연기가 공장을 가득 채우기까지 단 42초가 걸렸습니다.직원들이 급하게 배터리를 치우고 불을 끄려 했지만 리튬 화재에 쓰는 금속화재용 소화기는 거기 없었습니다.

정영재 기자입니다.

오전 9시 24분 직원들은 제품을 옮기고 물건을 살핍니다.

공장 2층 작업장,프리마베라포장된 리튬 배터리들이 한데 모여 있습니다.

이것부터 문제였습니다.

[김진영/화성소방서 화재예방과장 : 배터리 셀 모아놓은 곳에서 작은 불꽃과 함께 연기가 나왔고요.]

1차 폭발 뒤 급하게 배터리들을 분산하려 하지만,옮겨 붙는 속도가 더 빠릅니다.

결국 2,3차 폭발이 이어집니다.

소화기를 가져와 소화액을 뿌리지만 리튬 화재엔 소용 없습니다.

[김진영/화성소방서 화재예방과장 : A,B,C급 일반 소화기… 배터리에서 화재가 났을 경우 그렇게 큰 적응성이 없는…]

업체는 금속화재용 'D급 소화기' 5개를 뒀다고 했지만 이 동에는 없었습니다.

폭발이 이어졌고,프리마베라단 42초 만에 작업장은 연기로 가득 찼습니다.

[김진영/화성소방서 화재예방과장 : 공간 전체에 연기가 가득 찬 상황에서 대피가 어려웠을 거로 보이고요.]

일단 번진 금속 화재,모래나 팽창 질석으로 꺼야 합니다.

하지만 물처럼 멀리서 뿌릴 수 없고 중장비로 들이부어야 합니다.

하지만 건물 2층이라 애초에 불가능했습니다.

불이 난 지 10분 뒤 소방대원들이 도착했지만 진입하지 못했습니다.

철골에 패널을 덧댄 경량철골구조 건물이라 무너질 가능성이 높았습니다.

특히 불에 잘 타는 샌드위치 패널을 사용했습니다.

결국 소방은 2층에 있던 배터리 3만5000개가 다 연소되기를 기다릴 수밖에 없었습니다.
