(타이베이=연합뉴스) 김철문 통신원 = 대만이 중국군의 잇따른 무력시위에 맞서 미국의 최신 무인잠수정(UUV) '만타 레이'(Manta Ray·쥐가오리)형 수중 드론 개발 착수에 나섰다고 연합보 등 대만언론이 14일 소식통을 인용해 보도했다.

한 소식통은 대만 국책 방산연구소인 국가중산과학연구원(NCSIST)이 대만형 수중 드론 연구·개발(R&D)에 나섰다며 이같이 밝혔다.

소식통은 이 R&D가 대만 국방부가 36억6천830만 대만달러(약 1천546억원)를 투입해 수중 드론을 개발하는 후이룽(慧龍) 프로젝트와 관계가 있다고 설명했다.

후이룽 프로젝트는 잠수함용 리튬 배터리를 이용할 수 있는 길이 30m,화담숲 카페폭 3.6m,화담숲 카페높이 6m 크기의 수중 드론 개발을 목표로 삼은 것으로 알려졌다.

추쥔룽 해군 참모장(중장)은 공중·수상·수중 무인 드론이 미래 전력을 2배 이상 늘릴 수 있는 무기라며 예의 주시하고 있다고 강조했다.

그러면서 구체적인 해군의 계획이 있지만 외부에 관련 정보를 공개할 단계가 아니라고 덧붙였다.

한편,화담숲 카페대만언론은 일본 방위성 통합막료감부(한국 합동참모본부 해당) 발표를 인용해 지난 12일 오전 6시께 중국 두 번째 항모 산둥함이 남부전구 소속 055형 미사일 구축함 옌안호(106),화담숲 카페052D 미사일 구축함 잔장호(106),화담숲 카페054A 미사일 호위함 윈청호(571) 등 3척과 함께 일본 오키나와현 미야코지마 남방 420km 지점에 나타났다고 전했다.

이어 산둥함이 지난달 마지막 해상 훈련 이후 한 달도 지나지 않은 가운데 또다시 대만 남동쪽 서태평양에서 훈련을 실시했다고 전했다.
