재적의원 32명 중 이만규 의장은 24표,헝가리 야구김대현 시의원(서구1)은 7표를 얻었다.나머지 1표는 기권이었다.

전반기 2년동안 이 의장이 보인 집행부에 대한 적절한 견제와 균형 리더십,협치 의정에 대한 의원들의 전폭적 지지로 평가된다.

홍준표 대구시장과 함께 100년 대구미래를 위해 함께 머리를 맞대기도 하고 때로는 홍 시장을 향해 거침없이 쓴소리를 내왔던 이 의장에 대한 재신임인 셈이다.

이만규 의장은 이날 기자들과 만나 "후반기에 산적해 있는 현안들을 잘 처리하라는 뜻으로 받아들이겠다"며 "후반기에도 대구 시민들과 대구시의회를 위해 분골쇄신하겠다"고 소감을 전했다.

그러면서 "후반기에는 의장의 권한을 축소하더라도 부의장들과 각 상임위원장에게 일정부분 권한을 주는 '협의의 의정활동'을 펼치겠다" 후반기 의원들간 협치에 방점을 찍었다.

부의장 선거에선 이재화(서구2),헝가리 야구김원규(달성군2) 의원이 모두 과반의 찬성을 얻어 제1·제2 부의장에 각각 당선됐다.

이재화 의원은 “9대 의회가 협치해 잘 이끌어갈 수 있도록 협력하겠다”고 했고 김원규 의원은 “의회와 대구시 간 가교역할에 충실하겠다”고 당선 소감을 피력했다.
