현존하는 공신초상화 중 가장 오래된 '신숙주 초상'이 국가지정문화유산 국보로 지정됩니다.

공신초상화는 나라에 공로가 있는 신하를 책봉할 때 그려서 하사하는 그림을 말합니다.

국가유산청은 오늘(3일) 신숙주 초상을 국보로 지정 예고했다고 밝혔습니다.

1977년 보물로 지정되었다가 이번에 국보로 지정 예고된 '신숙주 초상(申叔舟肖像)'은 조선 전기 정치와 학문에서 뚜렷한 자취를 남긴 신숙주(1417~1475)의 초상화입니다.

청주의 구봉영당(九峯影堂)에 봉안되어 전해오고 있는 작품입니다.꿩과에 속하는 조류인 백한(白鷳) 흉배의 녹색 관복을 입고 허리에는 삽은대를 두르고 있는데 이는 문관 3품에 해당하는 복식이므로,1455년(세조 1) 좌익공신이 되었을 때 그 포상으로 제작되었던 것으로 추정됩니다.

얼굴은 코를 경계로 좌측이 좀 더 짙게 보이도록 음영처리를 했으며,엠마 라두카누눈두덩과 팔자주름 부분 및 뺨에도 선염(渲染)처리를 했습니다.수염은 올이 많지 않고 검은색으로 30대의 젊은 모습을 보여줍니다.

특히,엠마 라두카누신숙주 초상은 현재 가장 오래된 공신초상으로,엠마 라두카누조선 전기 공신초상을 대표하는 작품입니다.제작 당시의 원형을 충실하게 보전하고 있어서 미술사적으로 가치가 높고,조선 전기 신숙주라는 인물을 묘사한 점에서도 역사적으로 높은 가치가 있다는 평가입니다.

한국의 초상화 가운데 가장 오래된 작품은 고려 후기 명신 '안향의 초상'으로 1318년 제작됐습니다.

국가 유산청은 이와 함께 '권상하 초상','유설경학대장','영광 불갑사 목조지장보살삼존상·시왕상 일괄 및 복장유물',엠마 라두카누'해남 은적사 철조비로자나불좌상' 등 4건을 보물로 지정 예고했습니다.
