서 교육감은 이날 부안 계화중학교와 백산초등학교를 차례로 방문해 학교 관계자와 피해 현장을 둘러봤다.

이번 지진으로 인해 계화중은 본관동과 부속 건물에서 일부 미장 균열이 발생했고,2014년 8월 31일 야구 경기일정백산초는 교실과 화장실 벽체 일부에서 균열이,2014년 8월 31일 야구 경기일정체육관 처마에서 손상이 발생했다.

앞서 이날 오전 8시26분께 부안군 남남서쪽 4㎞ 지점에서 규모 4.8의 지진이 발생했다.도교육청이 피해를 집계한 결과 오후 1시 기준 계화중과 백산초를 포함해 총 11개 학교에서 시설 피해가 접수됐다.

다행히 학교에서 발생한 인명피해는 없는 것으로 파악됐다.

도교육청은 지진 발생 직후 전담반을 꾸려 각급 학교와 교육지원청에 시설점검을 요청하고 피해 상황을 파악하고 있다.

서 교육감은 "재난 발생 시 인명피해가 발생하지 않는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다"면서 "추가 피해 최소화를 위한 시설점검과 피해 복구에 신속히 나서 학생들이 안전한 학교생활을 할 수 있도록 전력을 기울이겠다"고 말했다.
