[사진출처=연합뉴스]최근 고령 운전자 관리제도 개선에 대한 논의가 뜨거운 가운데 작년 기준 65세 이상 고령 운전자가 낸 사고율이 65세 미만 운전자보다 13% 높은 것으로 나타났다.

7일 보험개발원에 따르면 작년 보험에 가입된 주피보험자 기준 65세 이상 운전자의 계약 건수는 258만6338건,사설 스포츠 배팅사고 건수는 11만8287건으로 사고율은 4.57%였다.

반면 65세 미만 운전자의 사고율은 4.04%(계약 건수 1828만7065건,사설 스포츠 배팅사고 건수 73만9902건)였다.65세 이상 운전자 사고율은 65세 미만의 1.13배 수준인 셈이다.

특히 65세 이상 운전자가 낸 사고는 피해자 수도 더 많았고 사고 심도를 나타내는 사고 피해자의 중상 비율 역시 더 높았다.

65세 미만 운전자가 낸 사고에서 평균 피해자 수는 1.96명이었고 65세 이상 운전자 사고 평균 피해자 수는 2.63명이었다.

65세 미만 운전자가 낸 사고의 피해자(145만1078명) 중 부상등급 1∼11급의 중상자와 사망자를 합친 비율은 7.67%였지만 65세 이상 운전자가 낸 사고의 피해자(31만532명) 중 중상자와 사망자를 합친 비율은 8.72%였다.

고령 운전자의 사고 빈도와 심도가 더 높게 나타나면서 보험사의 손해율 역시 고령 운전자가 더 높게 나타났다.손해율이란 보험사가 가입자에게 받은 보험료 중 사고가 생겨 피해자에게 지급한 보험금의 비율을 의미한다.

작년 기준 65세 이상 운전자에 대한 손해율은 80.2%로 65세 미만 운전자(76.3%)에 비해 4%포인트(p) 가까이 높았다.

65세 이상 운전자의 평균 사고가액(손해액/사고건수)은 481만2659원,사설 스포츠 배팅65세 미만 운전자의 평균 사고가액은 446만6566원이었다.
