[디지털데일리 채성오기자] 콘텐츠 추천 서비스와 OTT를 운영하고 있는 '왓챠(WATCHA)'가 월간 기준 손익분기점을 달성했다고 15일 밝혔다.

왓챠는 대외 경제 및 투자 환경과 콘텐츠 시장의 변화에 따라,블루아카이브 이상형 월드컵지난 2022년 말부터 수익성 개선과 흑자 전환을 목표로 기조를 전환해 예산 집행을 최소화하고 신규 비즈니스 모델을 통해 수익성 강화에 나섰다.오리지널 콘텐츠 제작 편수를 최소화화고,블루아카이브 이상형 월드컵마케팅 효율화를 통해 연간 마케팅 집행 비용도 90% 이상 축소했다.

이후 왓챠는 새로운 비즈니스 모델(BM)인 콘텐츠 개별 구매 서비스를 시작하고,블루아카이브 이상형 월드컵플랫폼 내 다양한 광고 상품을 출시했다.

그 결과 왓챠의 영상 콘텐츠 개별 구매(TVOD)는 웹툰 개별 구매(PPV) 매출은 지난해 하반기 대비 올해 상반기에 각각 232%,블루아카이브 이상형 월드컵411% 급증했다.영상 개별 구매의 경우 최신 영화는 물론 구작과 시리즈까지 감상할 수 있으며,블루아카이브 이상형 월드컵웹툰의 경우 PPV로 감상할 수 있는 작품 수가 전년 대비 214% 확대됐다.

왓챠 관계자는 "재무구조 개선을 위해 더욱 노력이 필요한 시점"이라며 "지속가능하고 고객에 더 나은 서비스를 제공하기 위해 콘텐츠 생태계 내에서 관계사들과 긴밀하게 협력하면서도 플랫폼으로서 다양한 시도를 지속해나갈 것"이라고 말했다.

한편 왓챠는 2010년 종합 콘텐츠 추천 및 평가 플랫폼 왓챠피디아로 시작해 2016년 OTT 서비스로 비즈니스를 확장했다.7억건 이상의 콘텐츠 평가 데이터 기반 추천 기술을 바탕으로 콘텐츠 시장 변화에 빠르게 대응한 결과 2022년 734억원의 역대 최대 연매출을 달성한 바 있다.
