[앵커]

인천시가 인천 북부권 문화 활성화를 위해 문화예술회관 건립을 추진하면서 후보지인 서구와 계양구가 서로 유치 당위성을 주장하고 나섰습니다.

경쟁적으로 현수막이 걸렸고 국회의원과 구청장까지 서로 유치에 사활을 걸겠다고 나서면서 과열 양상마저 보이고 있습니다.

김민아 기자의 보도입니다.

["계양 아라온에 건립하라!건립하라!건립하라!"]

문화예술회관 건립을 인천 계양 주민들이 호소하고 나섰습니다.

궐기대회에 참여한 윤환 계양구청장은 삭발을 하며 유치에 결의를 다졌습니다.

후보지인 계양구는 군부대와 김포공항 등 각종 토지 규제에 묶여 홀대를 당해왔다면서 문화 인프라에서도 소외당할 수 없다고 주장했습니다.

[윤환/인천 계양구청장 : "북부권문화예술공연장은 우리 계양구민이 끝까지 포기할 수 없는 마지막 희망입니다."]

인천 서구는 지역구 국회의원까지 나서 유치 당위성을 강조하고 나섰습니다.

신도시에 힘입어 인구 증가와 세수 확대에 기여했고 수도권매립지 등 고통을 감내한 만큼 이에 걸맞는 보상이 필수적이라는 겁니다.

[모경종/더불어민주당 의원 : "인천시는 그간 검단이 감내한 희생과 기여한 세수에 북부문화예술회관으로 보답해야 할 것입니다."]

이미 두 지역 거리 곳곳에는 유치 궐기 현수막이 수십 장씩 내걸렸고 시민서명운동에 나서는 등 경쟁이 과열되고 있습니다.

인천시는 이달 안에 건립 용역을 마무리한 뒤 검토를 거쳐 기본 구상을 내놓겠다고 밝히고 있어 두 자치구간 유치 경쟁은 당분간 계속될 것으로 보입니다.
