매해 노벨문학상 유력 후보로 거론되는 알바니아 출신의 세계적 작가 이스마일 카다레(사진)가 1일(현지시간) 심장마비로 별세했다.88세.카다레는 오랜 외세의 지배 등을 겪으며 유럽에서조차 잊힌 나라였던 알바니아의 역사를 문학적으로 되살린 작가로 평가받는다.1963년 첫 소설 『죽은 군대의 장군』을 펴낸 이후 『돌의 연대기』(1970),티켓베이 아옮『꿈의 궁전』(1980),티켓베이 아옮『부서진 사월』(1981) 등의 작품을 통해 독재에 시달리던 알바니아의 현대사를 은유와 풍자로 고발했다.
소설과 연극 대본,티켓베이 아옮시 등 80편이 넘는 카다레의 작품은 전세계 45개 언어로 번역됐다.프랑스는 그의 문학적 공로를 인정해 프랑스 최고 권위 훈장인 레지옹 도뇌르를 두 번이나 수여했다.2019년에는 박경리문학상 수상자로 선정돼 한국을 방문하기도 했다.
