(서울=연합뉴스) 이재영 기자 = 환경부는 목감천이 지나는 광명·시흥 공공주택지구에서 도시침수가 발생하지 않도록 2029년까지 지구 내 대규모 저류지를 마련 중이라고 12일 밝혔다.

저류지 공사는 지난 4월 시작했으며 저류지가 완공되면 총 257만t의 물을 저장할 수 있어 목감천이 범람하는 것을 예방할 수 있다.저류지 조성과 함께 '목감천 하천 정비사업'으로 제방 13㎞를 정비하는 작업도 추진 중이다.

환경부는 4월 인공지능(AI) 홍수예보체계를 도입해 홍수특보 지점을 223곳으로 늘리면서 목감천 너부대교도 새 홍수특보 지점으로 설정했다.

목감천은 광명시와 시흥시,2024년4월21일 발렌시아 CF 레알 베티스 발롬피에서울 구로구 등 인구 밀집지를 지나면서 하천 폭이 좁아져 집중호우 시 수위가 급격히 오를 수 있어 홍수 예방책이 필요한 하천으로 꼽혔다.

광명·시흥 공공주택지구에는 공공주택을 포함해 6만7천가구 주택이 들어선다.

국토교통부는 지구 남북측에 광역교통망과 도시 기반 시설을 복합 개발하고 보행 친화적인 도시를 만든다는 계획이다.

이병화 환경부 차관과 진현환 국토부 차관은 6일 광명·시흥 공공주택 지구와 목감천 정비사업 현장을 함께 점검했다.
