조형물을 제작한 예술가 샌디 윌리엄스 4세는 "주변 온도가 섭씨 60도에 이르지 않는 한 조각상이 녹지는 않을 거라고 생각했다"며 무더위 때문에 아이스크림 녹듯 조형물이 망가지는 건 상상하지 못했던 일이라고 밝혔습니다.

해당 조형물의 설치를 지원했다는 현지 비영리 단체는 시간이 지나면서 자연스럽게 형상이 변화하는 것을 의도했지만 이처럼 급격한 변화는 예상치 못했다면서 "이건 기후변화 문제의 심각성을 보여주는 것"이라고 강조했습니다.
