[헤럴드경제=원호연 기자]중국 당국이 스프래틀리 군도의 스카버러 암초(중국명 황옌다오) 인근에서 폭발한 어선으로 인해 부상당한 필리핀 선원 두 명을 구조했다.

1일 중국의 신화통신과 차이나데일리 보도에 따르면,이천시 마장면 이치리지난달 29일 황옌다오 인근에서 필리핀 선박의 엔진 고장으로 인한 폭발 사고가 발생했다.

이 사고로 선박이 손상되어 물이 차올랐고,두 명의 선원이 부상을 입었다.

해당 지역을 순찰 중이던 중국 해안경비대 선박 두 척이 즉시 구조 작업에 나서 구명조끼와 구명부표를 제공하여 선원들을 안전하게 구조했다.

구조 후,이천시 마장면 이치리해안경비대는 필리핀 당국에 이 사실을 알렸고,이천시 마장면 이치리필리핀 선박은 무선통신을 통해 중국의 인도적 지원에 감사를 표했다.

이번 구조는 남중국해 영유권을 둘러싼 중국과 필리핀 간의 물리적 충돌과 갈등이 고조되는 가운데 이루어진 것으로,이천시 마장면 이치리양국 관계의 긴장 완화에 기여할 수 있을지 주목된다.

앞서 중국 해경은 지난달 17일 남중국해의 세컨드 토머스 암초(중국명 런아이자오,이천시 마장면 이치리필리핀명 아융인)에서 필리핀 해군 선박을 공격했으며,이천시 마장면 이치리이로 인해 필리핀 군인 한 명이 손가락을 잃는 등 부상자가 발생했다.

이 사건 이후 중국과 필리핀은 서로를 비난하며 갈등이 심화되었고,필리핀과 상호방위조약을 맺은 미국의 개입 가능성에 대한 우려도 나타났다.

그러나 미국과 필리핀이 중국과의 대화를 시도하며 긴장을 완화하려는 움직임도 보고됐다.
