200m 역주행…차량 들이받고 보행자 덮쳐
현장서 60대 운전자 검거…'급발진' 주장

지난밤(1일),학 걷기지친 월요일을 보낸 시민들에게 안타까운 사고가 벌어졌습니다.서울 지하철 시청역 인근에서 승용차가 인도로 돌진해 9명이 숨지고 4명이 다치는 대형 교통사고가 났습니다.

먼저 이재승 기자입니다.

어젯밤 밤 9시 27분쯤 서울 중구 시청역 인근에서 검은색 제네시스 차량이 갑자기 인도로 돌진했습니다.

인근 호텔 주차장에서 나온 뒤 200m가량 역주행하면서 차량 두 대를 들이받고 횡단보도에서 신호를 기다리던 보행자를 덮쳤습니다.

이 사고로 9명이 숨지고,학 걷기4명이 다친 것으로 파악됐습니다.

당초 사망자는 6명이었지만,심정지 환자 3명이 최종 사망 판정을 받아 사망자는 9명으로 늘어났습니다.

인도에는 안전펜스가 설치돼 있었지만 인명피해를 막지는 못했습니다.

경찰은 현장에서 60대 가해 차량 운전자를 긴급체포했습니다.

이 남성은 음주 상태는 아니었던 것으로 파악됐으며 '급발진'을 주장하는 것으로 알려졌습니다.

마약 투약 여부나 졸음운전 여부는 확인되지 않았습니다.

운전자는 가슴 통증을 호소해 병원으로 옮겨졌습니다.

차량에 함께 타고 있던 운전자의 60대 아내도 병원으로 이송됐습니다.

경찰은 운전자 진술과 CCTV,학 걷기블랙박스 등을 토대로 신속하고 엄정하게 수사하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
