KAIST 고액 기부자이자 명예박사인 장성환 회장이 1일 오전 9시 40분 향년 94세를 일기로 별세했다.

KAIST에 따르면 고 장 회장은 2021년 서울시 강남구 논현동 소재 200억원 상당의 부동산을 과학기술 인재 양성에 써달라며 KAIST에 기부했다.

현재 KAIST는 장 회장의 기부금으로 장 회장과 부인 안하옥 여사의 이름을 담은‘(가칭)장성환·안하옥 바이오신약센터’를 건립하고 있다.센터는 2026년 8월 완공될 예정이다.

장 회장은 과학기술 발전에 기여한 공로로 2022년에는 KAIST 명예경영학 박사 학위를 받았다.

1930년 황해도에서 출생한 장 회장은 18살 남쪽으로 내려왔고 고학생으로 학업을 마쳤다.이후 무역업에 종사했고 화장품 용기 제조회사‘삼성브러쉬’를 설립했으며 중국으로 사업을 확장해 재산을 일궜다.

빈소는 연세대 용인장례식장(특실)에 마련됐고 유족으로는 부인과 1남 1녀가 있다.발인은 3일 오전 8시이며 장지는 경춘공원묘원(강원도 춘천시 서면)이다.
