[서울=뉴시스] 박대로 기자 = 서울시가 마포구 상암동에 최고 133층짜리 초고층 빌딩을 짓는 '상암 DMC 랜드마크' 사업을 포기한 것으로 파악됐다.

시는 사업에 현실성이 없다고 판단하고 새 사업을 위한 연구 용역을 발주할 계획이다.

상암 DMC 랜드마크는 상암동 디지털미디어시티(DMC) 3만7262㎡(약 1만1000평) 부지에 최고 133층짜리 초고층 빌딩을 짓는 사업이다.

상암 DMC 랜드마크는 2002년 상암동에 디지털미디어시티를 조성하면서 대표 건물로 건립이 추진됐다.서울시가 2004년부터 4차례 용지 매각을 추진했지만 사업 착수에는 이르지 못했다.

시는 미디어·엔터테인먼트(M&E)와 정보통신기술(IT),소프트웨어(SW) 등 기존 DMC 유치업종 외에 증강현실,블록체인,리버스 카지노 무료 플레이 계획인공지능 등 혁신성장 산업분야 업종을 유치하려 했지만 결국 실패했다.용지 공급 가격은 8365억원이었다.

문재인 정부 시절인 2020년 이곳에 임대주택 등 2000호를 짓겠다고 발표하면서 주민이 반발하기도 했다.2021년 보궐선거로 복귀한 오세훈 서울시장이 지난해 3월 다시 사업을 추진했지만 결국 업체가 나타나지 않았다.

시는 세계 최초 '트윈 횔' 대관람차,강북횡단선,리버스 카지노 무료 플레이 계획대장홍대선 등과 연계될 랜드마크 빌딩을 지으려 했지만 계획 수정이 불가피해졌다.

시는 대안으로 미국 라스베이거스 공연장 '스피어'나 미식축구 경기장 '얼리전트 스타디움' 같은 문화 체육 시설을 검토하고 있는 것으로 전해졌다.
