대한의사협회(의협)은 18일 대규모 집회를 열고 자신들의 의견이 받아들여지지 않을 경우 27일부터 무기한 휴진에 돌입한다고 밝혔다.

임현택 의협 회장은 이날 서울 여의도에서 열린 '의료농단 저지 전국의사 총궐기대회'에서 "의사들의 정당한 요구를 정부가 받아들이지 않을 경우 오는 27일부터 무기한 휴진에 들어갈 것"이라며 이같이 말했다.

그러면서 "정부의 독재에 맞서 우리 모두가 힘을 모아 대민 의료를 반드시 살리자"고 강조했다.

의협은 이날 △의대 정원 증원안 재논의 △필수의료 정책 패키지 쟁점 사안 수정·보완 △전공의·의대생 관련 모든 행정명령과 처분을 즉각 소급 취소 등 3가지를 요구하며 전국적으로 집단휴진을 강행하고 총궐기대회를 열었다.

임 회장은 "정부의 의료농단으로 전국의 수많은 전공의들이 의료현장을 떠나고,dps l2교육농단으로 의대생들이 학교 현장을 떠난 지 벌써 4개월이 넘었다"며 "(정부가) 사직 전공의를 범죄자 취급하는 것으로도 모자라 강제노동을 시키려 하고 있다"고 비판했다.

이어 "정부가 의사를 노예가 아니라 생명을 살리는 전문가로 존중하고 귀를 기울여야 한다"며 "폭압적인 정부가 의사들을 전문가로,dps l2생명 살리는 소중한 존재로 대우할 때까지 끝까지 싸우겠다"고 강조했다.

한국중증질환연합회는 이날 의협의 집단휴진과 관련한 성명을 내고 "의사들이 끝내 불법 집단휴진에 들어가 히포크라테스 선서를 내팽개쳤다"며 "불법행위를 법대로 처리해야 한다"고 주장했다.
