캐나다 중앙은행인 캐나다은행이 5일(현지시간) 기준금리를 기존 5.00%에서 4.75%로 0.25%포인트 인하했다고 밝혔습니다.

캐나다은행이 금리 인하를 단행한 건 코로나 팬데믹 발발 직후인 지난 2020년 3월 이후 4년 만입니다.

당시 캐나다는 2020년 4월 이후 금리를 0.5%까지 낮췄다가 인플레이션 대응을 위해 2022년 3월부터 지난해 7월까지 금리를 계속 올려왔습니다.

티프 맥클렘 캐나다은행 총재는 기준금리 인하 후 성명을 내놓고 "인플레이션이 완화되고 있다는 추가적이고 지속적인 증거가 나오면서 더는 긴축 통화정책을 유지할 필요성이 사라졌다"고 설명했습니다.

시장에선 캐나다은행이 오는 7월 추가적인 금리 인하에 나설 것으로 전망하고 있습니다.

캐나다은행에 따르면 캐나다의 소비자물가지수 상승률은 지난 2022년 6월 8.1%를 기록했지만,와이즈토ㅗㅌ지난 4월엔 2.7%로 둔화했습니다.
