(서울=연합뉴스) 신유리 기자 = 미국이 대만에 자폭드론 등 5천억원 상당의 무기 판매를 승인했다고 미 국방부가 18일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

로이터 통신에 따르면 미 국무부는 미사일과 자폭드론 등 3억6천만 달러(4천964억원) 어치를 대만에 신규 판매하는 방안을 승인했다고 미 국방부 국방안보협력국(DSCA)이 이날 발표했다.

이번 판매는 "역내 정치 안정,내 챔피언 찾기군사 균형,내 챔피언 찾기경제 증진을 유지하고,내 챔피언 찾기상대국의 안보를 강화하는 데 도움이 될 것"이라고 DSCA는 덧붙였다.

승인된 판매안에는 '배낭 속의 폭격기'로 불리는 대인 및 대장갑차 자폭 드론인 스위치블레이드 300,내 챔피언 찾기또 다른 자폭 드론인 알티우스(ALTIUS 600M-V) 등이 포함됐다.

이 같은 움직임은 지난달 대만에서 친미·독립 성향 라이칭더 총통이 취임하면서 미국과 중국 간 긴장이 고조되는 가운데 나온 것이다.

앞서 미 국무부는 이달 초 대만에 모두 3억 달러(약 4천120억원) 상당의 F-16 전투기 예비·수리 부품과 관련 장비 판매를 승인하기도 했다.

중국은 대만을 자국 영토의 일부로 간주하는 '하나의 중국' 원칙을 대외정책으로 주장하면서 미국의 무기 판매에 반발하는 동시에 대만을 둘러싸고 군사 훈련을 강행해왔다.

대만 국방부는 "대만 주변에서 중국 공산당이 빈번하게 군사 작전을 벌이는 상황에서 이번에 승인된 품목들로 적의 위협에 신속하게 대응하고 실시간으로 탐지하는 능력을 갖추게 됐다"며 감사를 표했다.
