잠잠해지나 싶었던 바이든 대통령,틴 토이후보 사퇴론이 다시 불붙고 있습니다.

오랫동안 바이든 대통령을 지원해온 낸시 펠로시 전 하원의장이 "시간이 없다"며 압박에 나섰고,지지자들의 후원금도 이번 달엔 반토막 날 것으로 예상됩니다.

임세흠 기자가 보도합니다.

낸시 펠로시 전 미국 하원의장은 '출마 여부'가 전적으로 바이든 대통령에게 달린 일이라고 전제했습니다.

다만,며칠 전까지 공개 지지를 표했던 것과는 달리,틴 토이민주당원들은 바이든 대통령이 결정을 내리길 촉구하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

바이든 대통령이 이미 여러 차례 완주 의사를 밝혔는데도 측근인 펠로시 전 의장까지 사실상 후보 사퇴를 압박한 것으로 해석됩니다.

[기자 질문 : "대통령!낸시 펠로시 전 의장이 여전히 당신 편인가요?"]

3주 전 바이든 대통령 선거자금 모금 행사를 주최해 2천8백만 달러를 끌어모은 영화배우 조지 클루니는 더 직접적으로 사퇴를 촉구했습니다.

그는 뉴욕타임스 기고문에서 "바이든으로는 11월 대선에서 이기지 못할 것이고,상원,틴 토이하원 선거 모두 패배할 것"이라고 전망했습니다.

민주당 내에선 바이든 사퇴를 촉구하는 상하원 의원이 10명으로 늘었고,이번 달 후원금 모금액이 지난달의 절반 수준으로 떨어질 가능성이 거론되고 있습니다.

전방위적 압박 속에 바이든 대통령은 한국시간 내일 오전 나토 정상회의를 마무리하는 기자회견을 열 예정입니다.

국제 무대에서 고령,틴 토이건강 논란을 잠재우겠다는 각오인데,동시에 대통령 출마 자격에 대한 검증의 시간이 될 것으로 보입니다.
