신한금융은 앞서 2019~2020년 두 차례에 걸쳐 IMM프라이빗에쿼티·어피너티에쿼티파트너스·EQT파트너스 등의 사모펀드(PEF) 운용사를 투자자로 유치하는 1조 9000억 원 규모의 유상증자를 단행했다.이 과정에서 주식 수가 5500만 주가량 늘었다.조용병 전 신한금융 회장은 보통주자본(CET1) 비율 개선 목적이라고 밝혔지만 시장에서는 재일 동포 주주의 입지를 좁히기 위한 조치로 해석했다.결과적으로 이 유상증자는 신한금융의 주가 발목을 잡고 있다는 평가가 나온다.유상증자를 통해 소수 지분을 보유했던 PEF들은 올해 초 차익 실현을 하고 대다수 빠져나갔다.업계 관계자는 “신한금융은 주식 수가 너무 많아 다른 금융지주사 대비 주가 저평가가 심하다”고 말했다.

실제 신한금융은 올 1분기부터 3분기까지 총 4500억 원 규모의 자사주 매입·소각을 진행하고 있다.지난해에는 총 5000억 원(1350만 7398주) 규모의 자사주를 매입해 전량 소각했다.
