(서울=연합뉴스) 홍제성 기자 = 중국 명문대 출신의 촉망받는 엔지니어가 자체 개발 기술로 제작한 '콘크리트 반지'로 여자친구에게 청혼한 사실이 뒤늦게 중국 인터넷을 뜨겁게 달구고 있다.

1일 홍콩 사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP)에 따르면 화제의 주인공은 중국 최고 명문인 칭화대 토목공학과 대학원(박사과정) 출신의 야오궈유(姚國友·36)씨다.

그는 2011∼2016년 이 대학에서 박사과정을 밟으며 건축자재의 방수 품질과 수명을 높이는 나노 실리콘 이온 소재 개발에 노력해 왔다.

그가 개발한 기술은 중국의 대규모 물길 전환 사업인 남수북조(南水北調) 프로젝트와 각종 수력 공학 프로젝트를 통해 채택되기 시작했고,주토피아 가젤그는 2016년 졸업 당시 학교에서 주는 발명품 시상식에서 금상을 받았다.

야오씨는 이 자리에서 자신이 발명한 기술을 적용해 직접 만든 콘크리트 반지를 현재 아내가 된 여자친구에게 끼워주며 공개 청혼했다.

그는 "이 반지는 우리 사랑이 100년 후에도 부식되거나 변질하지 않는다는 뜻"이라고 의미를 부여했다.

당시에도 일부 알려졌던 이 이야기는 최근 중국 매체들이 다시 보도하면서 소셜미디어상에서 또다시 화제가 되고 있다.

상당수는 이 이야기가 낭만적이라는 반응을 보였지만 일부는 "너무 싼 반지로 청혼해 진실하지 않아 보인다"는 반응을 보였고 그를 향해 "시멘트형"이라거나 "나르시시스트"라고 비웃는 사람들도 나왔다고 SCMP는 전했다.

한편,주토피아 가젤그는 졸업 후 2017년 콘크리트 방수 재료 전문회사인 가덱스(Guardex)를 설립하는 등 총 15개 회사의 법인대표가 되고 특허 60개를 보유하는 등 사업적으로도 성공을 거두고 있다고 신문은 전했다.

야오씨가 개발한 제품은 2022년 베이징 동계올림픽 스피드 스케이팅 경기장에 공급되기도 했다.
