파월 연준의장 "노동시장 여건 팬데믹 직전 복귀…과열상황 아냐"

(뉴욕=연합뉴스) 이지헌 특파원 = 미 노동부는 지난주(6월 2∼8일) 신규 실업수당 청구 건수가 24만2천건으로 한 주 전보다 1만3천건 증가했다고 13일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

이는 지난해 8월 6∼12일 주간(24만8천명) 이후 10개월 만에 가장 높은 수준이다.다우존스가 집계한 전문가 전망치(22만5천건)도 웃돌았다.

최소 2주 이상 실업수당을 신청하는 '계속 실업수당' 청구 건수는 5월 26일∼6월 1일 주간 182만건으로 직전 주보다 3만건 늘었다.

실업수당 청구 건수의 증가는 미국의 노동시장 과열이 해소되고 있을 가능성을 시사한다.

미 연방준비제도(Fed·연준)는 노동시장 과열이 인플레이션 고착화를 초래할 수 있다고 보고 고용 관련 지표를 눈여겨보고 있다.

제롬 파월 미 연준 의장은 전날 기자회견에서 미 노동시장 상황에 대해 "광범위한 경제지표들은 현 미국의 노동시장 여건이 팬데믹 직전 우리가 위치했던 지점으로 복귀했음을 보여준다"며 "상대적으로 단단(tight)하지만 과열 상황은 아닌 것으로 보인다"라고 평가했다.
