지난달 27일 스위스 제네바 국제노동기구(ILO) 본부에서 열린 '2024 제네바 기업가정신 포럼'에서 '글로벌 윤리경영과 이해관계자 중심 경영대상(Global Ethics & Stakeholder Commitment Award)' 초대 수상자로 선정된 신창재 교보생명 의장은 영상소감을 통해 이같이 말했다고 교보생명이 1일 전했다.

이 상은 유엔이 정한 세계중소기업의 날을 맞아 세계중소기업학회(ICSB),캘리포니아 호텔 앤드 카지노ILO,유엔무역개발협의회(UNCTAD),캘리포니아 호텔 앤드 카지노국제무역센터(ITC) 등이 제정한 상으로,윤리경영과 이해관계자중심 경영을 실천함으로써 '사회정의'를 추구해온 글로벌 기업가에게 수여한다.각국의 후보 추천과 심사위원단의 심사를 거쳐 신 의장이 초대 수상자로 선정됐다.

심사위원장을 맡은 윈슬로 사전트 전 ICSB 의장은 "신창재 의장은 지난 24년간 글로벌 수준의 윤리경영 철학을 바탕으로 고객,캘리포니아 호텔 앤드 카지노보험설계사,직원,주주,지역사회,캘리포니아 호텔 앤드 카지노정부 등 모든 이해관계자가 함께 발전하는 이해관계자 중심 경영을 선도적으로 실천해 사회정의를 추구하는 데 앞장선 기업가로 평가받았다"고 수상 배경을 설명했다.

신 의장은 ILO본부에서 열린 시상식 영상 소감에서 "2000년 대표이사 부임 당시부터 잘못된 영업관행을 개선하며 고객중심의 정도영업을 추진하다 보니 모든 이해관계자에 대한 윤리경영에도 점점 눈뜨게 되었고,이를 계기로 자연스레 이해관계자 중심 경영에도 관심을 갖게 되었다"고 밝혔다.

의대 교수에서 지난 2000년 교보생명 대표이사로 취임하면서 보험사 최고경영자(CEO)로 변신한 그는 '윤리헌장'을 선포하고,2004년 '직무윤리 실천규범'을 2006년 '직무청렴 계약제도'를 도입한 바 있다.
