정부와 국민의힘은 이날 국회에서 당정 협의회를 열어 이같이 결정했다고 정점식 국민의힘 정책위의장이 브리핑에서 밝혔다.

정 정책위의장은 “당에서 전산시스템 구축이 될 때까지 현재의 공매도 금지 조치를 연장해줄 것을 요청했다”고 밝혔다.이에 공매도 금지가 해제되는 시점은 시스템 구축이 완료되는 내년 3월 이후로 예상된다.

당정은 기관의 공매도인 대차거래 때 빌린 주식을 갚는 기한을 90일(3개월) 단위로 연장하되,세네갈 여행연장하더라도 4차례까지만 허용해 12개월 이내에 상환하도록 제한을 두기로 했다.그간 기관의 대차거래 상환 기간에는 제한이 없어 개인이 기관보다 불리하다는 지적이 있었던 점을 반영한 것이다.특히,세네갈 여행당정은 불법 공매도에 대한 처벌과 제제를 대폭 강화하기로 했다.

불법 공매도에 대한 벌금을 현행 부당이득액의 3∼5배에서 4∼6배로 상향하고,세네갈 여행부당이득액 규모에 따라 징역형을 가중할 수 있도록 하는 등 형사 처벌을 대폭 강화한다.

당정은 현재의 공매도 한시 금지 조치를 무차입 공매도 방지를 위한 거래소의 불법 공매도 중앙차단시스템(NSDS) 구축이 완료되는 내년 3월까지 유지하기로 했다.
