정 신임 원장은 중앙일보 조사부 기자를 시작으로 서울신문 문화부 차장,가린오마이뉴스 편집국장 등을 역임했다.다년간 문화 정보화 현장을 연구하고 취재했다.한국언론진흥재단 이사,가린국무총리실 비서실장을 지내며 풍부한 행정 경험도 쌓아 공개 모집과 심사에서 가장 높은 점수를 받았다.

유인촌 문체부 장관은 "그간 경험과 전문성을 바탕으로 세계적으로 가속화되는 디지털 환경에 대응하고,가린문화·체육·관광 분야에서 인공지능(AI) 등 디지털 신기술을 활용해 한국문화정보원을 정부 혁신 선도기관으로 이끌어 달라"고 주문했다.

한국문화정보원은 문화 정보화 전담 기관이자 디지털 혁신 전문기관이다.문체부의 문화 디지털 혁신 비전인 '새로운 가치와 경험이 있는 디지털 문화 일상화'를 실현하기 위해 문화 데이터 개방·활용,가린문화·체육·관광 분야 디지털 혁신 지원,가린AI 선도 서비스 발굴 등을 추진한다.
