충남 천안시가 14일 국립 망향의 동산에서‘일본군 위안부 피해자 기림의 날 기념식’을 개최했다.

일본군 위안부 피해자 기림의 날은 위안부 문제를 국내·외에 알리기 위해 2017년 법률로 제정된 국가기념일이다.

1991년 8월14일,행운 로또고(故) 김학순 할머니가 위안부 생존자 중 최초로 피해 사실을 공개 증언한 날을 기념해 제정했다.

김 할머니의 증언 이후 전국의 생존자들이 잇따라 피해 사실을 알렸고,이에 일본군 위안부 피해자 문제가 인권 문제로서 국제사회에 알려지는 계기가 됐다.

천안시는 해마다 위안부 피해자 아픔을 기억하고,행운 로또존엄과 명예 회복을 위해 기림의 날 행사를 열고 있다.

박상돈 천안시장은 이날 성거읍 국립 망향의 동산을 방문해 위안부 피해자 추모비와 고(故) 김학순·김복동 할머니 묘에 헌화를 하고 고인들의 넋을 기렸다.

국립 망향의 동산에는 일본군 위안부 피해자 56명이 안장돼 있다.

이와 함께 천안시는 오는 16일까지 온라인 추모관을 운영한다.

천안시청 누리집에서‘온라인 추모관’에 접속하면 헌화와 함께 추모의 글을 작성할 수 있다.

박 시장은 “인권의 역사는 더디지만 한 걸음 한걸음씩 나아가고 있다”며 “이 역사를 되풀이하지 않기 위해서라도 일본군 위안부 역사의 진실과,여성인권과 평화의 가치를 잊지 않을 것”이라고 밝혔다.
