독립기념관이 8·15 광복절 경축식을 취소해 논란이 거센데요.

김형석 신임 독립기념관장이 경축식 취소가 충청남도 때문이라는 발언을 해 전임 독립기념관장과 충청남도까지 나서 반박하는 등 파장이 커지고 있습니다.

보도에 정재훈 기자입니다.

광복절 경축식을 돌연 취소한 독립기념관.

사태가 일파만파 확산되자 김형석 신임 독립기념관장이 해명을 자처하고 나섰습니다.

[김형석/독립기념관장 : "독립기념관에서 공식적으로 취소를 한 건 한 번도 없어요.매년 이 행사는 중앙정부와 충남도청에서 진행해왔습니다."]

지난 12일 기자회견에서는 경축식을 자신이 취소한 게 아니라 충청남도 때문이라고 말했습니다.

[김형석/독립기념관장/지난 12일 : "전임 관장의 판단으로 자체 기념행사를 준비하다가 충남도에서,충남도가 연결해서 하는 행사를 내포에서 하겠다 그래서 취소가 됐다는 사실을 저도 확인하게 됐고요."]

그런데 전임 관장의 말은 다릅니다.

[한시준/전 독립기념관장/오늘/KBS 대전 생생뉴스 : "그렇게 거짓말을 하면 안 되죠.(바로 전에는 관장님이 추진하셨을 것 아니에요?) 제가 추진해서 기획까지 만들고 각 부처에 초청장 발송하고…."]

충남도 또한 김형석 관장의 발언이 사실과 다르다며 반발했습니다.

충남도 측은 '독립기념관 광복절 경축식을 그동안 주관한 적이 없고,낭만포토클럽취소할 권한이나 권리도 없다'고 입장을 밝혔습니다.

정부 부처인 국가보훈부 산하기관이 주도한 국경일 행사를 어떻게 자치단체가 멋대로 취소할 수 있겠냐는 겁니다.

논란이 커지자 천안시가 독립기념관에서 경축식을 열겠다고 나섰지만,낭만포토클럽독립유공자 단체인 광복회가 불참하면서 껍데기뿐인 경축식으로 전락했다는 비판을 피할 수 없게 됐습니다.
