쿠르스크에서 포로로 잡힌 러시아군

(베를린=연합뉴스) 김계연 특파원 = 러시아 본토 쿠르스크를 8일째 공격 중인 우크라이나가 러시아 영토를 점령할 의사는 없다며 '공정한 평화'에 동의하면 공격을 중단하겠다고 밝혔다.

AFP·로이터통신에 따르면 헤오르히 티크히 우크라이나 외무부 대변인은 13일(현지시간) "러시아가 공정한 평화 회복에 빨리 동의할수록 우크라이나 방위군은 러시아 본토 공격을 빨리 멈출 것"이라며 "쿠르스크를 차지하는 데 관심이 없지만 우리 국민의 생명을 보호하고 싶다"고 말했다.

그는 "쿠르스크 작전은 러시아 군대의 도네츠크 이동을 저지하고 병참을 복잡하게 만들기 때문에 전선에 도움이 된다"고 덧붙였다.

이같은 발언은 러시아 본토 공격의 전술적 목표를 둘러싼 해석이 분분한 가운데 나왔다.

볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령은 전날 연설에서 쿠르스크와 국경을 맞대고 있는 자국 수미 지역이 6월 이후 2천100차례 가까이 공격받았다며 접경지역 자국민 보호가 중점임을 시사했다.

그러나 러시아는 이날 쿠르스크에 진입한 우크라이나군과 수미에서 대기 중인 예비군을 공격했다며 격퇴 작전을 계속하고 있다고 밝혔다.

블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령은 전날 "민간인과 민간 인프라를 공격하거나 원자력발전소 시설을 위협하는 자들과 무슨 협상을 할 수 있겠는가"라고 말했다.

AFP는 미국 싱크탱크 전쟁연구소(ISW) 자료를 분석한 결과 우크라이나가 러시아 본토를 최소 800㎢(서울의 1.5배) 통제하고 있다고 이날 보도했다.

우크라이나군은 전날 러시아 영토 1천㎢를 장악했다고 주장했다.반면 알렉세이 스미르노프 쿠르스크 주지사 대행은 우크라이나군이 40㎞ 전선에 걸쳐 영토 안 12㎞까지 진입했다고 푸틴 대통령에게 보고했다.
