(워싱턴=연합뉴스) 강병철 특파원 = 미국 정부는 6일(현지시간) 이란 대선에서 이란 핵 합의(JCPOA) 복원과 히잡 단속 완화를 대표 공약으로 내간 온건 개혁파 마수드 페제시키안 후보가 당선된 것에 대해 평가 절하했다.

국무부는 이날 AP통신 등에 "이란 대선 후보들이 말한 대로 이란 정책은 최고 지도자가 결정한다"면서 "우리는 이번 선거로 이란이 근본적으로 방향을 바꾸거나 자국민의 인권을 더 존중하게 될 것으로 기대하지 않는다"고 밝혔다.

이어 "이란의 대선에 상당수의 국민은 아예 참여하지 않는 것을 선택했다"면서 "이번 대선은 자유롭고 공정한 선거가 아니다"라고 밝혔다.

국무부는 다만 미국의 이익을 진전시킬 때 이란과 외교를 추구할 것이라고 밝혔다.

앞서 베단트 파텔 국무부 수석 부대변인도 지난 1일 브리핑에서 대선 결과와 무관하게 이란이 변화할 것이라고 기대하지 않는다고 밝힌 바 있다.
