이복현 금융감독원장이 자본시장 선진화와 관련한 세제개편 논의가 이뤄질 때 금융당국도 상속세 완화와 관련한 의견을 피력하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

이복현 원장은 오늘(26일) 서울 마포구 상장회사회관에서 열린 '기업 밸류업을 위한 지배구조 개선 세미나' 직후 기자들과 만나 "상속세 과표나 세율이 오랜 기간 억눌려져 국민의 상당수가 몇 년 이내에 상속세 과세 대상이 될 수 있다는 문제의식이 있다"고 말했습니다.

이 원장은 이어 "합당한 기업 승계나 기업의 주가 상승이 상속세 등 왜곡된 제도로 인해 억눌려져 있다는 문제의식엔 이견이 없고,연금복권 인터넷구매당국 내 논의에서 적극적으로 이러한 의견을 피력하겠다"고 말했습니다.

이 원장은 상법 개정 대신 자본시장법 특례 규정을 통해 상장사부터 '이사의 주주 충실 의무'를 먼저 적용하는 방안이 추진되는 것이냐는 질문에 "상법 개정이든 자본시장법 개정이든 개정안의 내용과 방향에 대해 정해진 건 없다"고 선을 그었습니다.

이어 재계의 반발에 대해서는 "회사 이익의 극대화가 주주 이익 극대화로 이어진다는 점에서는 이견이 없다"면서 "현상 유지를 하자는 주장이 있다면 그 근거도 명확히 있어야 할 것"이라고 지적했습니다.

앞서 이 원장은 '밸류업' 정책의 하나로 이사의 충실의무 대상을 주주로 확대하는 내용으로 상법을 개정해야 한다고 목소리를 높인 바 있다.
