삼성전자가 파운드리 사업부에서 3나노(㎚·10억 분의 1m) 웨이퍼 결함이 발생했다는 소문에 대해 강력하게 부인했다.

26일 업계에서는 삼성전자 파운드리 웨이퍼 제조 공장에서 3나노 2세대 공정 중 2500랏(lot) 규모의 결함(defect)이 발생해 1조원 손실이 발생했고,로또 제로그라비티이 웨이퍼들을 전량 폐기해야 한다는 소문이 돌았다.2500랏은 12인치 웨이퍼 기준 월 6만 5000장가량의 생산 규모다.

삼성전자는 이 루머에 대해 “사실이 아니다”라며 부인했다.실제 업계에서는 삼성 파운드리의 3나노 생산 규모가 월 6만 장 수준에 미치지 못하고,로또 제로그라비티공정 중에도 다양한 검사 과정을 거치기 때문에 수치 자체가 너무 과장돼 있다는 해석이 나온다.

삼성전자는 대만 파운드리 1위 회사 TSMC와 치열하게 3나노 공정 경쟁을 벌이고 있다.삼성전자 시스템LSI 사업부는 회사 파운드리의 3나노 2세대 공정을 활용해 차세대 애플리케이션 프로세서(AP)인‘엑시노스 2500’을 생산할 계획으로 알려졌다.
