[앵커]

지구촌 북반구 곳곳에서도 예년보다 이른 폭염이 기승을 부리고 있습니다.

이집트에선 이번 주말 기온이 섭씨 50도에 이를 것으로 예보됐는데요.

반면 남반구 칠레에서는 1년에 내릴 비가 사흘 만에 쏟아져 침수 피해가 잇따르기도 했습니다.

그리스 아테네 해변은 이미 한여름입니다.

예년에는 섭씨 30도 수준이던 6월 중순 한낮 기온이 이번 주엔 40도에 육박하고 있습니다.

더위에 지친 개들은 도심 분수대에서 몸을 식힙니다.

관광명소 아크로폴리스는 관광객의 일사병을 막기 위해 이틀 연속 낮 시간에 문을 닫았습니다.

[스티븐/네덜란드 관광객 : "문 닫는지 몰랐어요.11일에 표를 샀어요."]

아프리카 북부를 덮친 뜨거운 공기층이 지중해를 건너면서 튀르키예 기온도 40도를 넘나듭니다.

하지만 이 정도는 약과입니다.

이집트에선 지난 7일에 이어 이번 주말에도 50도가 넘는 폭염이 예보돼 있습니다.

미국 캘리포니아 데쓰밸리는 이미 지난주 기온이 48도까지 치솟았습니다.

[더그 올슨/캘리포니아 주민 : "많은 사람들이 여기 와서 기후변화를 느껴봐야 합니다."]

반면 남반구 칠레에서는 15년 동안 이어져 온 가뭄이 무색하게 폭우가 쏟아지고 산사태도 잇따랐습니다.

사흘 동안 350mm 넘는 비가 왔는데 지난해 1년 치 강우량보다 많습니다.

[후안 마뉴엘/쿠라닐라우에 주민 : "예년과 다릅니다.80년 살아온 노인들은 강이 이렇게 넘치는 게 처음이라고 합니다."]

적도와 가까운 미국 마이애미에서도 때아닌 폭우가 쏟아져 침수피해와 항공기 결항이 이어졌습니다.
