(서울=뉴스1) 김종윤 기자 = 시멘트산업사회공헌재단은 세계 최초 야구 전문 특성화고 전환을 추진 중인 강원 상동고등학교에 1억 원을 지원한다고 16일 밝혔다.

국내 7개 시멘트업체가 함께 설립한 시멘트산업사회공헌재단은 매년 250억 원 규모의 기금을 출연해 운영하는 공익법인이다.

강원 영월군에 있는 상동고는 인근 광산 폐쇄로 인구가 급격히 줄면서 폐교 위기에 몰렸다.지난해 기준 전교생 수는 3명에 불과했다.

이에 지역주민과 동문은 야구 특성화고로 전환하기 위해 추진위원회를 결성했다.지난해 야구부 창단에 이어 올해 자율형공립고 2.0 공모에 선정됐다.

시멘트산업사회공헌재단은 지역사회 발전에 기여하고 지역 스포츠 인재 발굴을 위해 상동고에 1억 원을 집행하기로 했다고 설명했다.
