(서울=연합뉴스) 성혜미 기자 = 한진은 조현민 사장과 노삼석 사장이 지난 25일부터 몽골 수도 울란바토르를 방문해 현지 물류 시장 진출에 박차를 가했다고 27일 밝혔다.

조 사장 등은 이번 출장을 통해 울란바토르 외곽 터미널과 창고 부지 등을 둘러보고 한국-중국-몽골 수송 루트 등 향후 확대될 물류 거점으로서 몽골 시장의 잠재력을 확인하는 한편 현지 투신그룹(Tuushin) 측과 만나 협력 방안을 논의했다.

한진은 작년 10월 울란바토르에 대표사무소를 설립한 뒤 한국-몽골 간 활발한 교역에 수반되는 물류 서비스와 인프라 확대를 통해 사업 기회를 모색해왔다.

한진은 지난 3월 몽골 최초의 종합물류기업 투신그룹과 물류사업 활성화를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.

몽골은 오랜 기간 K컬처와 K푸드 등 한류가 인기를 끌고 있으나 물류 서비스와 인프라가 활발히 개발되지 않았고,라스트 먹튀제조업이 성장하지 않아 생활 소비재 대부분을 수입에 의존해 물류 시장 육성이 시급하다고 한진은 설명했다.

한진 관계자는 "몽골은 정부 차원에서 수도 인근에 연 60만 TEU(1TEU는 20피트짜리 컨테이너 1대분) 규모의 통합물류센터를 추진하는 등 물류 인프라 개선에 적극적"이라며 "아시아 북서부 지역에 대한 물류 사업 활성화를 통해 한국 상품의 운송 신뢰를 제고할 것"이라고 말했다.
