목포해경은 C 씨(40대,갑판장)가 일을 못 한다는 이유로 B씨를 3차례 폭행하고,이에 화가 난 B씨가 C 씨를 작업용 도구를 이용해 찔렀다는 선원들의 진술을 바탕으로 자세한 경위를 파악하고 있다.

현장에 도착한 해경은 피해자 C 씨에 대해 심폐소생술을 지속 실시하며 인근 항으로 입항,하동 한밭제다119구급대에 인계했으나 결국 숨진 것으로 확인됐다.

해경은 주요 관계자 진술과 확보된 증거를 토대로 지난 16일 피의자 B씨에 대한 구속영장을 신청했다.
