행사는 먼저 양준영 광복회 대전지부장과 함께 육동후·육나영 학생,마작 일섭임소현 대전시 대전시 흥보대사 등 4명이 독립선언서를 낭독했다.육동후·육나영 학생은 1919년 충북 옥천에서 만세운동을 주도하고 주재를 파괴하다 체포돼 5년간 옥고를 치른 육창주 애국자시의 증손이다.
이어진 기념 공연에선 태권아트코리아 청소년 시범단이 태권도를 통해 독립운동의 열기와 불굴의 의지를 표현했고,시 홍보대사이자 트로트 신동 가수 김태웅 군이 '내 나라 대한'을 열창했다.
이장우 대전시장은 기념사에서 "3·1운동의 뜨거운 함성과 숭고한 희생이 오늘의 대전을 만들었다"라며 "선열들의 고귀한 정신을 이어받아 미래 후손에게 세계 속 웅비하는 자랑스러운 일류 경제도시 대전을 물려주기 위해 시민 여러분과 함께 힘차게 앞으로 나아가겠다"라고 말했다.
한편 이 시장 등은 이날 기념식에 앞서 국립대전현충원을 찾아 참배하며 순국선열과 독립운동가들의 넋을 기렸다.
